Event sync between connected applications

Learn how our two way event sync works with connected apps.

Ever wondered how Coordinoter keeps your calendar events in perfect harmony with Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar? Well, wonder no more! Here’s the lowdown on how our seamless event sync works, ensuring you never miss a beat (or an appointment).

How It Works

When you connect your Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar to Coordinoter, you unlock the magic of two-way sync. This means any events you create, update, or delete in Coordinoter will reflect in your connected calendar app, and vice versa. It’s like having a personal assistant who’s always on top of your schedule.

Google Calendar Sync

Google Calendar syncs with Coordinoter using push notifications. Here’s how it goes down:

1. Push Notifications Setup: When you connect Google Calendar, Coordinoter sets up unique channels to ‘watch’ your calendar. Each calendar gets its own channel, so we’re always in the loop.

2. Change Detection: Whenever a watched resource (like an event) changes, Google sends a notification to Coordinoter describing the change.

3. Backend Magic: Our clever backend receives this notification and updates the event on the Coordinoter side in real time.

4. Event Creation/Update/Deletion: When you create or modify an event in Coordinoter, our backend uses Google’s API to mirror these changes in your Google Calendar.

OAuth and Permissions: To make this all happen, we use OAuth for secure access. When you connect your Google account, you grant Coordinoter permission to manage your calendar events. We receive tokens that allow us to perform these actions without ever needing your password.

Outlook Calendar Sync

Outlook Calendar sync operates on a similar principle but with its own flair:

1. Change Notifications: When you connect Outlook Calendar, Coordinoter subscribes to change notifications for your calendar.

2. Notification Reception: Whenever there’s a change (like an event being created, updated, or deleted), Outlook sends a notification to Coordinoter.

3. Backend Updates: Our backend processes this notification and updates the event on the Coordinoter side.

4. Event Management: Any event you create, update, or delete in Coordinoter is synced to your Outlook Calendar using Microsoft’s API.

OAuth and Permissions: Just like with Google, we use OAuth to securely access your Outlook Calendar. You grant us permission, and we receive tokens that let us manage your events without needing direct access to your account credentials.

Why It Matters

This two-way sync ensures that your schedule is always up-to-date, no matter where you make changes. Whether you’re adding a new meeting in Coordinoter or updating an appointment in Google Calendar, everything stays in perfect sync.

So, go ahead and connect your calendars with confidence. We've got your back, ensuring your events are always where they need to be, when they need to be there.

Keep rocking those schedules!
